McNab invests in Powershift, fast-tracking clean energy for Australian construction sites
September 26, 2025
McNab has announced a significant investment in Powershift, a leading provider of next-generation temporary power solutions.
The partnership positions both Queensland-based companies at the forefront of driving sustainability and innovation, with Powershift’s advanced technology replacing traditional diesel generators with clean, quiet and rapidly deployable energy systems that reduce fuel use and emissions by up to 75 per cent.
McNab Chief Executive Officer Kunjan Ganatra said the investment demonstrates McNab’s commitment to practical ESG leadership and long-term industry transformation.
“This partnership reflects our belief that Powershift’s technology represents the future of temporary power in commercial and industrial settings – something we at McNab have been actively researching for some time, given the scale of energy demand across our construction sites,” Mr Ganatra said.
“Rather than build this capability from the ground up, we have chosen to partner with a company that is already delivering on-the-ground solutions across Australia and beyond, and that also shares McNab’s values. We have seen the benefit firsthand, with Powershift’s mobile units being used on McNab construction sites delivering significant cost savings, quieter working environments and cleaner energy solutions for our team, our clients and the community.
“This partnership will help accelerate the transition to cleaner and smarter energy solutions, redefining how the construction industry, as well as many other industries, powers its future.”
Powershift’s rental fleet of mobile battery systems is capable of powering entire construction sites including cranes, hoists, site sheds and multiple items of plant, as well as keeping projects moving through commissioning and handover even if the grid is not yet available.
Their solutions are deployed across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, powering infrastructure projects, manufacturing facilities, islands and mobile plant, along with direct grid stabilisation in partnership with grid operators.
Powershift Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Sandra Brodie said McNab’s investment provides the momentum Powershift needs to scale more rapidly and to amplify its impact across multiple industries.
“Our vision has always been to redefine what’s possible in delivering temporary power here in Australia and our partnership with McNab enables us to expand our presence in the market and to deliver greater benefits to our clients,” Ms Brodie said.
“Our extensive exploration of best practice globally, coupled with our on-the-ground experience, has now placed us at the forefront of delivering innovative temporary power solutions that can not only help customers decarbonise through reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but also drive significant efficiencies and cost savings.
“The construction industry, in particular, has long grappled with the enormous power demands of its building sites with limited grid availability. In many cases, existing grid connections were only ever intended to support a few residential homes – falling far short of what’s needed to bring a high-rise development or higher density project out of the ground.
“The industry’s default solution has been to bring in large, often oversized, diesel generators, burning thousands of litres of fuel a month and creating noise and fumes that disrupt both workers and the surrounding community. It’s a costly, unsustainable and inefficient approach, and for us, provided an obvious opportunity to innovate.
“Many parts of Europe are leading the way in this space and the strong relationships we’ve built with global industry leaders and suppliers have enabled us to fast track the introduction of this cutting-edge technology to the Australian market.
“Partnering with a company of McNab’s calibre, expertise and commitment to sustainability and innovation makes this an exciting new chapter for Powershift to drive real change nationally.”
Mr Ganatra said the partnership celebrated the start of an exciting new alliance, while further diversifying the expanding McNab Group’s offering.
“This partnership marks a pivotal moment for both companies – combining McNab’s industry leadership and financial strength, with Powershift’s pioneering technology and expertise, we can deliver cleaner, smarter and globally scalable energy solutions,” Mr Ganatra said.
“At McNab, we take our responsibility to drive innovation and minimise our environmental impact very seriously. This investment is just one example of how we are investing in companies that are not only pushing the boundaries of efficiency but also delivering cleaner, smarter solutions for the future.”
